updating your application easy using hibernate?

Hi,

I was wondering if there is an easy way using hibernate to migrate from one version of my application to another version?

Suppose I develop an application (using hibernate) putting everything under CVS ofcourse. If I then develop a new version of the application, and the hibernate-mappings (and thus the database) changes, can I get an updater I can run at the client so his database gets updated to the latest version? This tool would probably then need the old and the new hibernate mappings or maybe only the new and a connection to the database?

Try using the SchemaUpdate tool

Can it do just that? I was just wondering. I'm new to hibernate and I was hoping someone could give me a definite yes or no on this.

SchemaUpdate is the way to look. It clearly does not support every single available update. So there is no definitive answer other than try it in your case.
