When I reverse engineer given database tables with several INTEGER based columns then all these
INTEGER columns are auto-mapped/converted onto java.lang.Integer variables in persistence objects

How can I adjust/tell Hibernate Tools to use (automatically) "long" values instead?

Or do I really have to manually change this in the hbm.xml files and java classes?

use the type column in reveng.xml.

btw. it happens because the type in the table is set to be optional thus the entity needs to be able to represent null.
