 Post subject: Convert database tables to work in hibernate

I am VERY new to hibernate so please forgive this question if it is not even relevant, but...

If I have a large number of tables, how do I convert them to work in Hibernate? I *assume* they have to be converted to java classes and then the mapping has to be done by hand, right? Surely I don't have to convert each table by hand, do I?
