 Post subject: is this standard behavior for optimistic locking?

NHibernate 1.2
.Net 3.5
SQL Server 2005

I have an entity that is using optimistic locking. After I update said entity I'm attempting to get at the new number for the optimistic lock (Int32), but it's still the old number. The update to the DB works as expected, just not the entity in the session.

Is this expected behavior? If so, what's the best way to get around this?
