I'm using nhibernate 1.2.0GA and I would like to know if it's possible to map a comma delimited string to an IList<int> using nhibernate. The comma delimited string would be stored in one of the columns of my table. For example the column called layout would have the following values.

-- I'm adding quotes to show that it's stored as a string in my table column.
'96,45,66,77'

after loading the entity I would like it to behave as follows.

// count would return 4.
int x = entity.layout.Count;

// would return 96.
int first = entity.layout[0];

Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

Out of the box, the answer is "no". There are more than one way you can approach this:
1. Create a UserType... probably overkill in this case
2. Map the db field to a private string field and write a wrapper property to parse or construct the string in the getter and setter respectively.
3. Create the List<int> property normally. Then map the db field to a private string property that construct or parse the string in the getter and setter respectively

I'd go with #3.
