Hibernate version:
1.1 and current version
Name and version of the database you are using:
DB2 8.1 on a AS/400

My Problem is basicly in the customer data. There serveral columns of strings which are empty. The empty fields represent aproximatly 70% of the overall traffic.

My Problem is now how do I pass a RTRIM in the Select-statements for my objects without mapping it to an expression. I can t set it to an expression beacuse i have to write this fields back to the databese.

So i only want to pass the trim statements only when selecting something.

Is it possible to achieve this without changes in the sourcecode ?

Thanks, that was a useful hint.
At the moment I'm trying to evaluate a new driver derived from DB2Driver.

But we will try the 'custom sql loading' hint on Monday, when my colleague who has more information on the corresponding customer data than me is back.
