NHibernate version: 1.0.3.0

I have an application running 24/7. Application asks for data now and then from the database.
The database server needs sometimes to be restarted.
So how can I detect that the database server is down? I want to create an IsAlive Function...

The application holds a session open from start till end.
I have tried with IsOpen, but this only returns true if the database is stopped on the database side, the same with IsConnected.

The ConnectionState is Open as long as I don't do anything against the database.

Anyone that can help me?
