In a many-to-one declaration, the hibernate attribute "cascading" may be set to "persist", "save-update", "merge", among others. My question is, what is the difference between the first two? Is there a reason why "persist" is not available in NHibernate?
Also, is there a reason why the attribute "lazy" is not available in NHibernate?

afaik, "persist, merge" are only available in hibernate 3. we are basically a port of hibernate 2.1 with some extra features. not sure about why we don't have lazy for m-1 relationships but I have been able to use "outer-join=false" to simulate it...
