Hi.

I wanted to query about the rationale behing ILMerging HashCodeProvider with NHibernate assembly... For debug build it is kind of contraproductive, as after this the VS (at least version 2005) refuses to use the debug info file (complains something about version mismatch), so that I was unable to step into source code (which was the only reason to make a build at first place)
Or did do something wrong during build?

No, you didn't do anything wrong. The rationale originally was to reduce the number of DLLs distributed with NHibernate. If you are building NH using NAnt, you can comment out the ilmerge call in NHibernateSolution.build.
