I have noticed that NHibernate still uses connected collections even if a class is not immutable and the collection in question is eagerly loaded. As a result I can't stick my collection in the Viewstate. Is there way to force Nhibernate not to use a connected collection? It seems that this would be an easy performance enhancement is a class cannot be changed and collection is loaded eagerly anyway.

There isn't any such optimization in NHibernate currently. If you think it would be a worthy addition, please submit a JIRA improvement request.
