I found a lot of what I was looking for in the Hibernate 2.0.3 docs. I totally spaced on them being there (been away from NH for too long). Anyway, here

It's not possible right now with the Criteria API, but I plan on porting the functionality (ICriteria.CreateCriteria method) from H2.1 soon.

HQL is not translated to Criteria, nor the other way round, they are both just translated directly to SQL (as far as I remember).
