One of our components was forced to upgrade antlr to version 3.1.x to resolve a code generation issue in previous versions. It is possible this component will be required in some of our applications which use Hibernate 3.2.6. This will result in our application requiring two different versions of antlr (2.7.6 and 3.1.x). To resolve the version conflict we would like to upgrade Hibernate's dependency on antlr to version 3.1.x. Based upon the antlr release notes we think this may be possible (reference included below). However, we are unsure if there is a need to re-compile Hibernate's grammar for it to function properly with antlr's new runtime libraries and have some additional questions.

http://www.antlr.org/wiki/display/ANTLR ... ease+Notes
"For the most part, v3.1 should be a drop in replacement for v3.0.1, but you will definitely have to regenerate output code from your grammars to be consistent with the new runtime libraries". Note we have confirmed antlr 3.01 is backward compatible with antlr 2.7.6.

1) Does Hibernate 3.2.6 support antlr 3.1.x? Are there any other known users with a similiar issue?
2) Is it possible to replace antlr 2.7.6 with the 3.1.x version without re-compiling Hibernate or Hibernate's grammar?
3) Has any tests been run to confirm the compatibility of Hibernate 3.2.6 with antlr 3.1.x?
4) Are there any unit tests which can be ran to confirm Hibernate 3.2.6 will function properly with antlr 3.1.x?
5) Do newer versions of Hibernate support antlr 3.1.x?

thanks,
Rob
