I have persisted a java enum value in a varchar column from instructions like these http://www.hibernate.org/265.html.

Can someone tell me if there is a way to create the table from hibernate with an enum column?

i.e. create table test (..., color enum('red','green','blue'));

After hibernate creates the table, the varchar column can be changed to enum('red','green','blue') and hibernate still works.

Hibernate version:3.3.0

MySQL version:5.1

thanks
