[b]Hibernate version:[3.1.3]

The L1 cache is per session scope right? If so, what is the maximum size of L1 Cache per session?

Yes, the L1 cache has session scope. From the Hibernate docs at
http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/v3/re ... ics-issues

Quote:
The Session caches every object that is in persistent state ..... This means it grows endlessly until you get an OutOfMemoryException

which I think also answers your second question.
