Hibernate version: 3.2.6ga -> 3.3.0 sp1

It may just be bad programming on my part, but I was reusing the cache that hibernate created on startup. I would use the getCacheProvider method of Settings class. It didn't make sense (at the time) to have two caches running around, and wanting to keep the overall 'application' fit-and-trim. We made sure our 'region' naming wouldn't collide with Hibernate and only put like two objects in it, which is why we didn't consider it a big deal to reuse the existing cache.

Now I see in 3.3.0 that the getCacheProvider method has been dropped from the Settings class and the CacheProvider class is deprecated.

Is there a better way to gain a reference to the cache? If not, I suppose this means I'll just need to fire up more than one instance cache, which seems like so much more than I need.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
