Hello all,

I have read up on this error through multiple posts but I am still not sure how to overcome this problem in my application. I load an object using Hibernate to view on a JSP page. The attributes are just displayed - there is no form data to submit for the object loaded.

I have a form bean that points to a different table. When I submit the form I am able to save the form without a problem and create several other new objects to a child table and save these. My problem is updating the object that I display in the form.

So, before the jsp page is loaded I do the following:

IndPermitFunctions pf = new IndPermitFunctions();
IndPermit ip = pf.getPermit(id);

The getPermit method is as follows:

The function loads the object and I am able to display the information on my jsp page. The jsp page is loaded and I can access the permit information. I now have a form associated with a form bean called Inspections. I enter the form information and am able to save the form with the following call:

DBFunctions.add(i, "DPWORACLE"); // JNDI name

The add functions does the following:

This all works. In fact I call this function several times to load data into a child table of the Inspections form and the results save without a problem.

Then I try to update the permit I display in my jsp page. (The one that is called during getPermit()).

IndPermit ip = new IndPermitFunctions().getPermit(i.getPermitNumber);
ip.setCompleteDate_(i.getCompleteDate());
ip.setStatus("COMPLETE");
DBFunctions.update(ip, "DPWORACLE");

The update function looks just like the add function only calls session.update(o). I have also tried to pull in the IndPermit object from my session by doing the following:

IndPermit ip = (IndPermit) request.getSession().getAttribute("GP");
// This would replace the first line in the previous code

Both of these calls will get me the permit and I am able to view the data. When I call the update method it gives me the illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions error.

My HibernateUtil file that handles session management is as follows:

Would the problem be solved if you used getSession instead of openSession?
