Is there a difference between:

Code:
public class Category {
   @OneToMany
   private List<Category> childCategories = new ArrayList<Category>();
}

and

Code:
public class Category {
   @OneToMany
   private Set<Category> childCategories = new HashSet<Category>();
}

or is this just a matter of preference?

I believe a Set cannot have duplicate entries, while a List might.

Quote:
Set A collection that contains no duplicate elements.

Quote:
List An ordered collection (also known as a sequence).
