I'm going to paste a link to my question that I posted on SO.
I'm using the Play! framework, although my main problem is a hibernate one (albeit wrapped in some Play! helper objects).

This is my first project with hibernate, and while I wasn't expecting things to be smooth at every corner, this is the very first thing that I'm trying to implement, and so far, 10 or so hours to design one little menu, and still failing, are making me think it's not worth it. I am enough of an old hand at SQL to implement this in 5 minutes, but if this is the way the modelling learning curve looks like, well that is simply ridiculous...
