Is it possible to construct a constant part of the query using IQuery syntax and then extend it with ICriteria like conditions?

I would like to avoid string concatenation for IQuery I currently do for dynamic part of the query text depending on the program context.

it is annoying to build whole query using ICriteria methods

but also it is not good to have two branching "if" for IQuery:
1) for dynamic IQuery text building
2) for conditional parameter substitution

It would be better to use a mix of IQuery syntax and then extending it with ICriteria expressions.
