We are afraid that Hibernate is not properly closing the connection at the end of the method (using Spring HibernateTemplate). We changed the log4j.properties to :

log4j.logger.org.hibernate=DEBUG
log4j.logger.org.hibernate.SQL=DEBUG
log4j.logger.org.hibernate.type=DEBUG
log4j.logger.org.hibernate.cache=DEBUG
log4j.logger.org.hibernate.transaction=DEBUG
log4j.logger.org.hibernate.jdbc=DEBUG
log4j.logger.org.hibernate.cfg=DEBUG

But still can't see Hibernate open and close connection messages. Pls advise. This is important.

I remember I had the same problem and I believe I could solve it by giving hibernate a reference to JTA manager. Please check LocalSessionFactoryBean's documentation to see how you can wire them together.
