Hibernate version 3.1

Dear Hibernate experts,

Please help me to solve this problem. I need to create a common file to handle all application level validation using hibernate through out my project. Can I trigger a procedure just before update/save ?

Is it posssible to create one ? If yes, how can I handle? Do any one having a sample application ? Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
