I've noticed that when using the Criteria class, the many side of a one-to-many relationship is not populated when doing an inner join. It is, however, populated when doing left outer joins. Is this a feature or a bug?

Please see the original posting http://forum.hibernate.org/viewtopic.php?t=973535 for details.

I'd say it's neither as it's the default behavior. You can override this behavior is it is not performing well:

You simply change the joinType when creating the association criteria.

So if you don't have the option of doing a LEFT JOIN, you're forced to lazy load the many side of the one-to-many relationship?
