 Post subject: When to use .merge() and .updtate() on the hibernatetemplate

The only diff I saw was with .merge all the rows get updated no matter what the values of selectbeforeupdate is in the hbm file. So .merge seems expensive. what else is the difference?

Do NOT use the HibernateTemplate, it is useless. Use Hibernate APIs directly, read the API Javadoc first.
