Hibernate3.xx

We have a many to many relationship and are using a hibernate List, the database only has one object in it but when the query is done and the list is populated it is filled with approx 10 null values as well as the one value from the database. Is this a known issue with hibernate or possibly a problem with our code? If it is not a known issue I will go into more detail, just thought I'd check if other people have seen this problem.
