I know the question of mapping a child to multiple polymorphic parents has been asked and discussed but I'm attempting to do something a little different. I need to map a child to two different (not polymorphic) parents.

I'm working with a file type where the child record type can appear in different places within the file and I need to record the containing parent in such a way as to be able to get them back out later. I just need a link between the parent and the child(ren). I don't need it bi-directional.

I thought <any> might solve the problem but it seems to want to work with a polymorphic set of parents. I would have though being able to record the table (which would map to a class in the child's mapping file) and the id within that table would work. I'm just not sure how to map it from the parent's point of view.

Anyone have any ideas?
