What is the difference between
hibernatetools (hibernatetools-3.1.0.beta5 - org.hibernate.eclipse.feature_3.1.0.beta5) and
Hibernate Extensions ?

They are 2 difference downloads.

I noticed that hibernatetools is recently updated (3.2 beta 6 - 02.07.2006) but Hibernate Extensions looked "abandoned" (version 2.1.3, 18. November 2004).

Hibernate tools is about 30MB (download zip file) (bigger than Hibernate core) and
hibernate extension is only about 2MB (download zip file).

I am confused - which is for what, when do I use which ?... 1 replaced the other ? Pls help to explain.

Thanks.

Hibernate extensions was for Hibernate 2.x series.
Hibernate tools is for the Hibernate 3.x series. It is also a much more comprehensive package including eclipse GUI based tools as well as the usual Ant based tasks.

So... basically the 2 are the same thing for the same purpose.

Just that hibernatetools is the :
- newer one
- for hibernate 3.x
- added more stuff

And...I only need to use/require one (of the 2) at any one time.

David, Thanks for the answer. :)

david is right. Additionally, hibernateext was the old name for a small set of extensions for hibernate 2.

today the hibernateext covers a list of multiple individual modules for hibernate3:

entitymanager
annotations
tools
...
