The examples in the hibernate downloads use

public static class Id implements Serializable


as an inner class for a composite Id. I'm wondering why it's a static class.

It makes sense to use a static class here doesn't it? Sometimes you want to be able to pass around just the id of an entity, instead of having to pass the whole instance.
