Hibernate uses JCL (Jakarta Commons Logging), but it appears to be riddled with a number of serious problems so bad that even the creator advises against using it:

http://www.qos.ch/logging/thinkAgain.jsp

I have the impression that these problems are solved with SLF4J (Logging Facade for Java):

http://www.slf4j.org/

So the inevitable question is: will Hibernate migrate from JCL to SLF4J?
