Okay I'll try to describe this as simply as I can...

I have an object/table called topic there can be thousands of topics grouped together which need to be retrieved from mysql in batches of 20. I need to be able to dynamically change the order of the topics eg. take a topic positioned 300th, make it second and presist this in the database.

Could anyone recommend the sweetest method of achieving this (obviously with the least performance impact)

Many thanks in advance. Please tap me if you need more info - I've deliberately left it as generic as possible as I hoped there would be a common generic solution.
