 Post subject: Mapping Custom Booleans in Legacy Database

I have a legacy Database that has some boolean columns filled with the following representations:

'j' or 'J' = true
'n' or 'N' = false

Does anybody know if there are means to extend the Hibernate Boolean representation?

I know that I could create my own UserType for this. Are there any other solutions?
