see

http://forum.hibernate.org/viewtopic.php?t=945424

i got some strange behaviour with a queryById to a sublass mapped with 'table per subclass'. When i used the 'query.setParameter()' method, the result set was empty. When i executed the SAME query without a call to 'query.setParameter()' it worked.
This wrong behaviour happened ONLY with the Long datatype. With Integer the query worked correctly.
Maybe this is a bug?

Code:
os: windows xp
db: mysql-4.1.11-nt
hibernate: 3.0.2 (also 3.0.5)

If it is not the wrong DTD declaration I mentioned in your other post, try to use the latest MySQL Connector/J.

Which version are you using?
