Is there any built in support for mapping java 5 enum classes?
I simply want to map a VARCHAR column back to an enum instance.

I've stumbled across this: http://www.hibernate.org/272.html - so Im not hopeful :o)

Is it only possible to do this currently with a custom user type?

Hibernate Annotations come bundled with a type that handles it.
