I have just upgraded my Hibernate libraries from version 2.1 to version 3.0. All other things are unchanged, and this caused the Hibernate startup time to increase by a factor 10!
Any hints on what causes this dramatic slowdown?

Thanks
Bo

I had the same problem. It was because all my hbm.xml files where being generated to use 2.0 DTDs. This post helped me:
