I am currently starting an ORM evaluation. Hibernate is one of the tools.

But I found some misleading information.

In the a short information flyer was stated that Hibernate 3.0.x needs JDK 1.4 or better 1.5, but in the FAQ section is written 3.0.x runs with JDK 1.3. What is correct?

Finally I need to know runs Hibernate 3.0.x / 3.1 on a IBM Websphere 5.1 with JDK 1.3 ? Are there any major restrictions known for this combination?

you can compile and run hibernate 3 on JDK 1.3

you loose some things like sorted sets, but the biggest thing is performance (but since you are used to JDK 1.3, I guess you dont care ,)

Would be Hibernate 2.x the better(more stable) / faster solution ?

no - Hibernate 2 will have the same issues.
