Hibernate version:
3.0.1
Name and version of the database you are using:
SQL Server 2000 sp3

Is there a way to access the cache that is instantiated with Hibernate so that I can use the cache for other things or would it be best practice to use another cache?

Thanks

I think if you use EHCache, it calls CacheManager.create(), which I believe returns a singleton default instance.

How is then releasing handled ??
