Hibernate version: 2.1.2

Hi

I'm trying to implement a DAO with Hibernate. I have DAO methods like getClient, saveClient, getDepartment, saveDepartment. The problem I'm getting is that if I get a Department object and I save a Client object the Department information is flushed to the database. I want to be able to control when I insert or update my date. Any recommendations?
