Is there a way to see what is inside the first level cache in hibernate?
Or if I am debugging the code, which attribute of the hibernate is the first level cache.

I think knowing what is inside the first level cache can help me understand how the cache in hibernate works better.

In Hibernate2, there is no "single attribute" which is the 1st-level-cache. The 1st-level-cache is a logically thing made of of a number of fields on the SessionImpl class.

If you are using Hibernate3, the 1st-level-cache is basically the class named PersistenceContext.

Regardless, the things that are ultimately cached are instances of EnttityEntry and CollectionEntry.
