Being quite a n00b (in Java and Hibernate), can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do this:

I have an old databasetable with 3 columns:
year, month and day
Now i would like to access these 3 columns as a single date in my code.
Is this possible (using composites maybe?)

Hibernate version:
2.1
Name and version of the database you are using:
MySQL 4.1
