If I load a parent object with LockMode.UPGRADE, are its child collections also loaded with that mode? How about if they are outer-join loaded v.s. lazily loaded?

Upon further reflection, the question is even more general. After I load one object and I'm traversing the graph thereafter, are all subsequent objects loaded using the same LockMode?

(Btw, yes, I have my copy of Hibernate In Action right here and I can't find an answer in section 5.1.7.)

I frankly could still use an answer to this question. It's not obvious from the FAQ, the docs, or the book as far as I can tell.

No, LockMode is not propagated. You could have determined this by trying it out! ;-)
