Gavin,

I found some references to folks who were suggesting that you not fetch values from JDBC via column name. It definitely does seem to be making a difference in performance for me (I'm using postgres 7.4.5).

Are you planning on implementing a change for this soon? Maybe it's in 3.0 already, I haven't checked.. (I'm using hibernate 2.x still)
