Is JCS still being used for the session cache implementation? The hibernate doc refers to it but the xdoclet doc indicates that the jcs tags are deprecated and the changes docs indicate that JCS has been removed. I thought that the 'cache' tags referred to the 2nd or jvm level cache.
I am using ehcache for 2nd or jvm level cache and have setup caches using the ehcache.xml file.

How do i configure the session cache? and how do i log the activity of the session cache as opposed to the jvm level cache?

jcs usage is deprecated.

cache = second level cache = ehcache for example

no way to configure 1st level cache, it is the hibernate session.
You fill it with queries or load, you do what you want with object, you close it. you can "evict" some object if you want. There no more cache at this level. You should not use the session as a "long" period cache
