In the <class> tag of .hbm.xml file. Are the above in the title equivalent? In XDoclet, the @hibernate.class doesn't have a property "lazy", but it does have "proxy". So I am just looking for a way of mapping a class as lazy in XDoclet.

It should be ...

proxy="net.sf.hibernate.proxy.HibernateProxy"

<class name="Foo" proxy="Foo">

is equivalent to

<class name="Foo" lazy="true">
