I am able to use the session.createSqlQuery to send native
sql. However what I really want to do is create a query and
get back a result set (not a list of objects)

For example I would like to send the query : select sysdate from dual
to an Oracle server.

I can do this in Toplink with no problem since they explicitly allow the return of a result set. Can this be done in Hibernate?

thanks for any input.

get the connection using session.connection() and use JDBC.
