You can't simply specify attributes for a set. Create a new POJO class that represents the attributes of your relationship, for example, CategoryLink, with all the properties. Then, map it with a <set> and a <composite-element> that has <property> and <many-to-one>. This changes the lifecycle semantics slightly, but you should be able to figure that out.
