Gavin, do you mean that 1:N and N:M relations are "sugar" for the domain model in a non-transparent-persistence-scenario?? Does this apply also for 1:1 references in your opinion? Of course I would agree that it is possible to query for all referenced objects, but isn't this a little bit extreme?

Eh?? No, I mean that /collections/ are sugar. All functional requirements can be implemented using only <many-to-one>, <one-to-one> and queries.
