You mean you would like to add a query hint to choose between the rule-based and cost-based optimizers? Or what?

We do not currently support query hints in HQL, but I am currently thinking hard about this issue.

Query plan trace is a usefull feature too, it can help to validate and to explain named queries without application code. I found it as a very good way for performance tuning.
