 Post subject: Newbie question about where attribute

In collection element, like <map>, there is a where attribute which can specify arbitrary SQL where condition.

My question is why we must have this SQL thing in mapping declaration? It looks like mixing different things up.

This is an optional attribute. You don't have to have it if you don't want or need it.

Why? The mapping file is all about telling Hibernate how to interact with the database.
