Hi. Could you please tell me how to get the next value of an Oracle sequence.

I need the next value to do some processing before inserting. Normally, I would do "select sequence_name from dual" in Oracle. Do I need to define the "dual" table in Hibernate mapping?

If there is an easier way to get the next value of sequence without defining mapping for "dual", it will be great.

Your help is appreciated.

Regards,
KK

How about :

Code:
RsultSet results = session.getConnection().createStatement().executeQuery("select nextval from dual");
...

You would then need to NOT use the sequence id generation strategy, but assign the value you just retreived.
