Is there a way to determine whether there exists an object in the Hibernate session for a given identifier, without resulting in calling the database? If it doesn't exist in the session I want to know, but not to load it in from the database. The contains() method takes an object instance and checks whether the actual instance exists within the session, but I can see no way of finding out whether there is an object with a specific identifier in the session.
