Is is possible to force hibernate to use discriminator values for InheritanceType.JOINED? I have tried adding
@ForceDiscriminator to the parent class but this seems to have no effect. I read hints that this is not possible to do with the "joined" strategy in hibnate but could find no definitive answers.

Other hints that it does work only had examples using xml to get the desired effect and I am unsure how this would work with annotations.

Any help appreciated.

thanks

BTW - I know there are other ways to do this without discriminator values but I need this in my solution.
